Gaming
Inspired by the beer-and-pizza game night our friends at Guardian Games hold every month–and needing something to keep us occupied during those quiet gallery hours–we decided to start our own game day. Thus begat Gaming at the Gallery. It’s basically an excuse for us to nerd out all day, eat snacks, drink caffeine/soda/cocoa (we’ve yet to combine all three; although…), and hang out with our friends. Yeah, it’s pretty rough being us!
Gaming seemed like a natural fit for a gallery that focuses on graphic narratives. This way, not only do we get to work towards introducing a new audience to the world of comic books and graphic novels, but it’s a great environment to introduce our fans and friends to some games they might not otherwise be involved in. Everyone learns, everyone wins!
Got games? Bring ‘em!
We have a wide range of games with varying play styles and difficulties, and we encourage people to bring their own games to teach others. In the future we plan on doing some beta testing of yet-to-be-released stuff as well; intrigued yet?
(P.S. – you’re welcome to bring some snacks or drinks to share while gaming, too… ;))

What about paper-and-pencil RPGs?
Yeah, we get asked that a fair bit. The trick with games like Dungeons and Dragons or Cyberpunk 2020 is that they are not really the sort of games you can play in an hour, or even a day. Right now we simply don’t have the resources to DM or host months-long campaigns–even though that would be quite fun! We do hope to expand our gallery hours in 2010, and maybe then we can start calling upon adventurous parties who need a place to roll out their D20s. :)
And here’s some pictures!
- Zombies!? Yes, Zombies!!! The table was almost not big enough.
- Red November: the ship’s on fire and sinking; here, take some grog!
- Molly vs. Kaebel, early on.
- Setting up a four-person game–with snacks! And an Aaron Duran!
- A round of M:TG with Tony Morgan’s art up on the walls.
- Mary-Anna came down to play Scrabble with us!
