THE ART OF BOLD RILEY, collected by Leia Weathington

Sequential Art Gallery presents THE ART OF BOLD RILEY, a group exhibition of original art, prints, and design sketches from Leia Weathington’s comic series The Legend of Bold Riley. The exhibit opens this Thursday, May 1st with the artist’s reception from 6pm to 10pm.

This exhibition features artwork by Joanna Estep, Jonathan Dalton, Genue Revuelta, Jason Thompson, Konstantin Pogorelov, Brittney Sabo, Melanie Gillman, and Weathington herself. All of the art comes from the critically acclaimed first anthology and the upcoming series Bold Riley: Unspun, both published by Northwest Press.

In The Legend of Bold Riley, Weathington & company introduces us to protagonist (and princess) Rilavashana SanParite, called Bold Riley. She abdicates her right to the throne to venture forth and explore the mysteries of her world The Coin, woo some ladies and kill some monsters along the way. At the end of May 2014, Bold Riley: Unspun continues our hero’s journey in a new collection of stories as a monthly mini-series. The new tales include witches, haunted forest pools, and much more.

Weathington moved to Portland, OR from San Francisco, CA, purportedly to write the Great American Novel. Instead she earned the Best Writer award at the 2013 Stumptown Comics Fest for the first volume of Bold Riley. The book has gotten favorable reviews from Curve Magazine, Okazu, the San Francisco Book Review, and many others, as well as a hearty recommendation from industry icon Gail Simone.

THE ART OF BOLD RILEY will be on display throughout the month of May, with gallery hours on Thursdays from 3pm-7pm, and by appointment. The exhibit will close at the end of business on Thursday, May 29th.
