“Subterranean” by James Michael Williams

Coming to Sequential Art Gallery for July is James Michael Williams, exhibiting his original drawings and paintings. Williams’ show “Subterranean” will explore the concept of layers, and how it applies to all aspects of life: the Earth, the human brain, consciousness itself. He says of his work, “There [is] a gray area between the world we live in and the world we imagine we live in. It is in this layer that I believe my work exists, somewhere in between the surface and the depths.”

Williams’ exhibit will open on July 7, 6-10pm, as part of downtown’s First Thursday art walk. For those not in you can watch the entire evening live online at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/sequential-art-gallery-studio . Sequential Art Gallery will also be open on Thursdays from 3-7pm and Saturdays 11am-5pm, or by appointment. “Subterranean” closes July 30.

Although he considers himself predominantly a drawer and painter, James Michael Williams has explored a variety of mediums including writing, music, film and performance. He has created and self published multiple comic books and zines, produced an album of original music and written a screenplay. He lives in Portland Oregon, where he currently explores and creates animation, cartoons and short films.
