SOUNDEFX – New Installation by Matthew Clark

Sequential Art Gallery proudly welcomes back Matthew Clark for his fourth show, SOUNDEFX, a combination of his work on “Doom Patrol” and his homage to how comic book sound effects used to be done. SOUNDEFX opens this First Thursday, May 5th, with an open reception from 6pm-10pm.

Once, words like “Pow!” and “Bam!” would be drawn onto the page as part of the art. But modern digital tools and translation-related needs have made it so that such effects are done in post-production rather than by the illustrator. For SOUNDEFX, Matthew has painted several of these sound effect words onto the gallery walls, juxtaposing several of his favorite pages and covers from “Doom Patrol” (DC Comics).

Matthew is a professional comic book illustrator and fine artist, living in Portland, OR. He has spent the past two years drawing “Doom Patrol” for DC Comics. He has recently signed on with Marvel Comics as the artist for the forthcoming “Ghost Rider” comic book relaunch.

Sequential Art Gallery + Studio is located in Old Town Chinatown at the Everett Station Lofts, 328 NW Broadway #113. Open for regular gallery hours Thursdays (3pm-7pm) and Saturdays (11am-5pm) or by appointment. The gallery showcases local artists who explore the concept of sequential art, which is loosely defined as using consecutive images to tell a story. Curated by Kaebel JK Hashitani and Merrick Monroe.
